There’s a clear theme to the Landmark Projects we’ve selected as some of last year’s most notable commercial real estate developments. That theme is “community.”
We see it in the Portland International Airport’s main terminal that offers hints of Oregon’s outdoor landscapes. The Glisan Landing and Hazel Ying Lee apartment projects provide housing for vulnerable populations. And the Benson High School remodel provides comfort to students while providing an inclusive sense of, yes, community.
Here are 10 smart, ambitious and functional commercial real estate projects that will define the region for years to come.
REED'S CROSSING TOWN CENTER

Reed’s Crossing is a multifaceted master-planned community (at 463 acres, the largest such development) that looks to make life easy for its residents. The project, which has begun adding retailers to its commercial mix (more on that in a moment), will feature 2,458 single-family homes and 1,406 multifamily homes upon completion. Built with the sense of bringing people together in mind, Reed’s Crossing features shopping, dining, recreation and education outlets. Spruce Veterinary Urgent Care recently announced a Reed’s Crossing location. The local dining options include Qdoba and Hops n Drops, where some 100 workers were set to be hired. California-based Redstraw Tea Bar has also opened a Reed’s Crossing location. The project also offers plenty of recreational options, including a 21-acre park and 36 acres of green space. More Reed’s Crossing parks are planned, developers say. Gramor Development developed the project's town center. Reed’s Crossing by Newland is owned in a joint venture partnership between North America Sekisui House, LLC and Brookfield Residential, and is managed by Brookfield Properties.
