The 829-stall parking center has opened and replace four surface lots.
(Vancouver, Wash.) -- The new eight-story Waterfront Vancouver Parking Center has opened at the corner of Columbia Way and Grant Streets.
“Now there is finally a central place to go for parking at the popular Waterfront Vancouver. Instead of going from lot to lot looking for a space, patrons can now go to one place. And, there are considerably more spaces,” said Gramor Development President Barry Cain.
“Also, people will find that the technology that we have incorporated into this garage is going to make it very convenient to use.”
The Parking Center’s total 829 stalls add more than 350 parking spaces, or “about 50% more than was previously available,” Cain added. “This is significant and we hope it means that everyone that comes to The Waterfront Vancouver will be able easily to find a parking stall quickly.” He said that the nearly 200 street-level parking spaces, operated by the City of Vancouver, will also all continue to be available.
At least 10% of the total spaces, or 83, are available for electrical vehicle charging spaces. Said Cain, “We’ve started with 10 parking spaces equipped with EV chargers, but we will increase that number as the demand justifies it.” ProPark Mobility operates the new facility. “We found that Propark’s philosophy matched ours in that we want the general public to have the best possible experience parking here.”
Two architectural companies were involved with the design. International Parking Design from Los Angeles did the main garage. Said Cain, “They are the best in the country. But for the exterior, we wanted a design that was special for the Waterfront Vancouver. And for that we turned to local architectural firm, TVA Architects.”
“When thinking about the design of the new garage it became our goal to reimagine, redefine and elevate the mundane into a piece of architecture that spoke to simple understated elegance, that would complement and reinforce the character and brand language of the new Waterfront Vancouver and adhere to the high standards that define the region’s most successful new live work community,” said principal designer, Robert Thompson, FAIA of TVA Architects, referring to the new parking center.
Cain continued, “When people use this garage, they are going to experience a garage that has larger spaces, taller ceilings and that is much more bright and airy than they have experienced before. We wanted this to be a proper entrance to the best waterfront development in the Vancouver -Portland area. TVA and International Parking Design helped us make sure that happened. In addition to the parker-friendly interior, the eight-story all glass ‘lanterns’ outside both southern lobbies can be lit to any colors to match the occasion.”
The building also includes approximately 10,000 square feet of retail on the Columbia Way frontage. The first retail tenant moving into the ground-floor commercial space is the popular home décor and lifestyle boutique, White Birch Design Company. White Birch will open in Spring 2025. Other retailers will be announced soon.
The Waterfront Vancouver Parking Center was constructed by local contractor, R&O Construction. “R&O has once again proven why they have done far more buildings in the Waterfront Vancouver development than any other company,” said Cain.
“We are very excited to offer more accessible and available parking options due to the Waterfront Vancouver’s overwhelming popularity,” noted Cain. “With more than 3,000 housing and condominium units opened or planned, mixed-use and office space, retail, restaurants, and two hotels, we think we are fulfilling everything we promised and more here at The Waterfront Vancouver.”
Gramor Development has completed more than 70 transformational developments, valued at nearly $1 billion throughout the metropolitan Portland and Vancouver areas. Projects include The Waterfront Vancouver’s $1.5 billion development spanning 20 city blocks and 32 acres in southwest Washington state.
